Edinburgh A Large Cultural City

Posted in Destinations  by openroads on March 31st, 2009

Home to one of the largest and most popular cultural festivals in the world, Edinburgh is a fantastic city and often cited as the heart of Scotland. As one of the most popular tourist destinations in the whole of the United Kingdom, generating over 100 million pounds a year in tourism revenue alone, Edinburgh offers many different sights and attractions to suit everyones individual wants and needs.

Fortunately, with so much to see and do, Edinburgh has fantastic transport links not only from within Scotland, but from the whole of the world. From within the United Kingdom, the main route to Edinburgh is either via along the well designed, easily accessible and heavily signposted motorway system, or by the East Coast Main Line rail route. Starting at Edinburghs Waverley train station, the East Coast Main Line allows passengers to travel direct to London Kings Cross train station, with several different stops along the way.

For visitors to Edinburgh from outside of the UK, Edinburgh Airport provides a fantastic array of routes to most countries around the world. With over 8 million passengers using the airport in 2008, it has become one of the busiest within the whole of the United Kingdom.

Once one has made route to Edinburgh and chosen where they are to stay, which in itself can pose a problem with so many hotels and varying accommodation types in all budgets, the next main point is to decide what exactly to see and do in Edinburgh. It is often said about many cities that there is something to see and do for everyone, though this is very rarely the case. With Edinburgh however, regardless of a visitors age, sex and personal interests, it is almost impossible to find a handful of different sights or attractions to fulfill their desires.

One of the more popular visitor attractions within Edinburgh is the historical aspect of the city. Edinburgh has over 4,500 grade listed buildings, almost all of which people are able to visit, or at least view, by those who wish. Furthermore, Edinburgh is renowned as being densely populated with museums, with at least 10 massively popular museums within only a few minutes driving distance of each other.

For the younger visitors to Edinburgh, or simply the young at heart visitors, there is an extensive range of pubs, bars and clubs, making for a fantastic nightlife area. With many individual popular nightlife areas, Grassmarket is regularly seen as the hub of Edinburghs nightlife, with a healthy mixture of family pubs and bouncing nightclubs.

Although it may not appeal to everyone, Edinburghs Festival is without doubt one of the Citys most popular and well known attractions. Taking place in August every year, the festival title is an umbrella term, encompassing a variety of smaller festivals underneath it. With the comedy festival being the most favoured part of the festival, it features everything from poetry to local art and culture to modern magic and is the perfect representation of Edinburgh itself, fun, popular and aiming to please all who visit.

Palm Springs is a Vacation Oasis for Those Escaping the Cold

Posted in Travel  by pdelray on March 31st, 2009

World famous golf courses are not the only things that vacationers flock to Palm Springs, California for. Even though golf is very popular here, there are hundreds of other attractions and activities such as tennis, biking, horseback riding, and the beaches (of course) that have made the city one of the most popular vacation destinations in the country. To fully appreciate the golfing that this vacation oasis offers as much as possible while you are on vacation there, youll need to know all that is available to you to decide which options you want to experience.

If golf is your bag, the one hundred and eleven different courses in the area are guaranteed to impress even the sternest golfers. The courses dot the terrain of the city and its surrounding areas and each one offers unique and rewarding greens for golfers of every skill level. The city enjoys an average of 350 days of sunshine per year, and along with continuously low humidity levels, it makes it easy to keep the courses maintained at optimum playing condition.

The Cimarron Golf Resort was designed by John Fought and combines views of the impressive desert with Scottish styling and character. The long course is set among lush green fairways with sparkling blue waters and impressive mountains in the backdrop. The sod walled bunkers require that players are up to par with their game, and skilled gamers will appreciate the skill that is required to meet its challenge.

Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort has two 18 hole courses for Palm Springs vacationers to enjoy. There are more than 40 bunkers and sharply sloping greens that were added not too long ago, which presents much appreciated challenges to even the most advanced golfer. The Legend is one of the most famous courses to try in the area, with a traditional layout that is both challenging and rewarding.

When the time comes to take a break from golfing, Desert Safari is a popular company that offers hiking tours through different locations around Palm Springs. Depending on your skill level and your interests, you can hike with a professional guide through exotic wilderness, thick forests, and past rock formations that pierce the desert. Walking downtown brings you to the Walk of Stars, shopping, restaurants, and spas. In addition to walking, many people enjoy a bicycle tour through the city or through the valleys in Palm Springs as well.

Why Choose Condo Rentals Instead of Hotels?

Posted in Travel  by pdelray on March 31st, 2009

Even though travelers can find a lot of the same amenities at both hotels and with condo rentals, there actually are quite a few differences between them, too. Guests often feel more confined when they reserve and stay in hotel rooms, even if they are staying in the large, more open suites. With a condo, you get an entire, real home that you can use as if it were your own during the length of your entire vacation. Many times you can also use any passes or special privileges that come with these rentals as well, which can include things like VIP parking or access to private beaches.

Some of the most popular condo rentals are beach front properties, some are out West in secluded deserts and are ranches, and still others are up in mountains, looking out across vast ranges and beautiful sunsets. The insides of the condo rentals are just as beautiful as their outside surroundings are, with bedrooms that include luxury linens on the beds, plenty of closet space, and high end television sets, iPod docking stations, and DVD and Blu ray players, too. Many of them have things like porches, verandas, and decks for vacationers to relax and unwind on, and there are also a lot of other amenities that people cannot get when they stay in a room at a hotel.

Some of the most obvious, of course, have to do with eating and the kitchen. In short, hotel rooms do not have kitchens and you cannot cook in the rooms, either. The rentals, however, do have fully stocked kitchens for you to cook in, which is probably one of the biggest perks in comparison to staying in a hotel during your vacation. Hotel rooms usually are just that rooms. Condo rentals, however, have many separate rooms; for instance the bedrooms are separate from an actual living room. The living rooms, by the way, usually are full of the most up to date entertainment equipment on the market. Top of the line surround sound equipment, big screen TVs, and CD stereo players are just some of the technology that youll find.

Most of the condo rentals that youll find also have pools, fitness rooms, beautiful views, saunas, spa treatment rooms, and beautiful gardens to walk through. Many of them are also located very near golf courses of the finest caliber as well. The condo rentals available make sure that guests are never bored or disappointed.

Last Minute Cruises Offer Discounts

Posted in Destinations  by angelheld on March 31st, 2009

They say that an early reservation on cruise ships provides big discounts. Most of the cruise lines want to fill up the ships with reliable vacationers beforehand so they would know if they have sufficient passengers. On the other hand, if you do your reservation in a last minute time, you can still do it well.

Honestly, last minute cruising can also offer a bunch of discounts. However, last minute reservation can involve a great risk. One of the risk is the ship could fill up by the early bird cruisers and leave no space for those getting last minute tickets. Aside from that, if you live far away from the airport and seaport, the airline fare could be very costly.

Both if the plane and shipping companies go with the flow of booking as early as possible. Booking early means cheap fees. As a result of this, having a last minute cruise can give you a much expensive fees.

Waiting until the last moment if not done wisely can cause problems. You must be prudent in a last minute cruise. You must find the best deals with each cruising companies. There are several companies that offer better departure time deals. These deals are intended for most of the last minute cruisers who have no other choice but to book at the last minute. For example, the company can increase the discounts for them in order to reach the designated passenger count for each cruise.

If you are a last minute cruiser, the very important thing that you should do is to sail off before sunset to book the cruises. You can also get a middle man. Middleman can do the entire booking job for you. Another thing is you can also save a lot of cash by using the online cruise booking system. Using online booking system can give you a trouble free access. Aside from that, online booking can also save time and effort all at the comfort of your own home or office.

Another thing to be considered is the flexibility of cruising plans. You must know what you have to do. You must know also where you want to go.

Finding a right last minute cruise deal needs a lot of solid leg work. Destiny helps the person who helps themselves. But if you find the best deal, grab the opportunity right away. Sometimes the shining stars are hidden inside the dark clouds and its up to you to find them.

Now here are some basic tips and strategy how to get into a last minute cruise easily.

* Collect all the important cruise brochures and flyers from the traveling office. Always make sure about the cruise features. Check out also the ships and deck methods online. By doing this, you will be able to find the best idea about the fees, destinations, atmosphere, amenities, recreational option, and types of accommodations.

* Outline places where you want to go. As much as possible talk to the travel agencies. The travel agencies can give you some knowledge regarding the cruise and its details. If not, you can also ask your friends for some advice and recommendations. There are a lot of places to go to and things to see in Alaska.

* Decide how many days you will stay in the cruise. Asking the traveling agencies will give you some idea. You can also ask them about their cruising programs. Normally most known cruises last from 5 to 18 days. On the other hand, there are also some companies that offer longer cruising schedules with more things to see and do.

* Plan how much money you are willing to spend. Your budget will determine what type of cruise you will have. Most probably you can level your budget with cheap, moderate, extra-deluxe, and deluxe type cruises. It is recommended that comparing these types will be a great step to know what to expect. By comparing the basic type of cruises you will know which one can make you most comfortable and enjoyable within your budget.

* Last minute cruise needs a short span of time reservation. To do this properly, talk to a travel agent by phone. Do not hesitate to tell the agent about your budget and your needs. Aside from that, you can also refer to some catalogs to select what cruises are right for you.

* With the assistance of the traveling agent, select the most convenient place of departure. After that, book your own departure points to the transportation office. Not only that, you must also get some additional cost for transportation.

Do not overlook last minute cruising values. You can have a better discount from ship reviews and other vital information. It is better to be prepared before leaving for cruise.

Disneyland Revives An Old Walt Disney Classic Attraction

Posted in Destinations  by tollieschmidt on March 30th, 2009

Guests at the Disneyland Park celebrated the reopening of the “it’s a small world” attraction. The refurbished attraction now features new dolls, boats and enhanced music.

A total of 29 new dolls (from Disney and Disney-Pixar films) have been added to the attraction, placed in the countries in which their stories take place. For example, dolls dressed in Aladdin and Jasmine costumes play in the Middle East scene, and a doll dressed as Alice from Alice and Wonderland appears in the Great Britain scene. Some appear as child dolls and some are playful-looking toys, such as the White Rabbit who accompanies Alice. The new doll costumes and toys are fashioned in the same artistic style that has made ‘it’s a small world’ an icon around the globe. ‘it’s a small world’ style was created by art director, color stylist and Disney Legend Mary Blair. Mary Blair’s sense of design shaped ‘it’s a small world’ from the very beginning.

Music from Disney films also has been added to the attraction’s soundtrack. The original song, written by Academy Award-winning composers Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman (Mary Poppins), will still play throughout the attraction but now will feature some subtle film music woven into the soundtrack, fitting the characters and scenes. The attraction also features new boats designed to evoke the look and feel of watercraft that children anywhere in the world might play with.

Disneyland’s attraction ‘it’s a small world’ is a classic Walt Disney attraction, which imaginears have updated. I can only imagine some of the complaints from traditional Disney theme park guests who will not enjoy the changes.

The Walt Disney Theme Parks are a tricky business when it comes to updating, removing, or even painting any original Disney attraction. These attractions to some are childhood memories of magic and whimsy; to others they are old relics for little kids. However, when you’re in the business of making dreams come true, you will always have some who will disagree.

I personally never understood some of the rhetoric over changes that have been made at Disney Theme Parks. Guests want the tradition, saying it’s what Walt would want. However, I always saw Walt’s dream as always moving forward, always evolving, and striving only to be the best. These classic rides and Disney attractions were cutting edge for the time. Walt was always pushing the boundaries of what many called impossible. So, it blows me away when today, the company bearing this man’s name cannot do the same. Because, once they evolve someone is blowing a whistle calling foul.

I love the Disney-Pixar characters, I think finding a way to blend them in and reviving a old classic is the right thinking.
