What to Look for When Living in a Hotel

Posted in Travel  by anoton1 on November 30th, 2009

For one reason or another, you may find yourself living in a hotel for some time. For some, this is a permanent arrangement, as they are more comfortable in a temporary space, while others are there for only a month or two, while they find a house to purchase or while their home is being repaired, etc. The important thing is to find a place that works for you and is comfortable.

The Neighborhood
The first thing to consider is where you’ll be living. Many live-in hotels have a bad reputation for being in the wrong part of town. If you’re new to town, take a look around before committing to one place. Choose a hotel that is in a decent area, where you won’t be afraid to look out the window at night.

You will also want to be near local transport such as the subway, if you don’t have a vehicle. Proximity to supermarkets, a place to do laundry and other conveniences is also a good idea. Some hotels may even provide a laundry room on site.

Choosing the Room
Since you’ll be living in the one room or suite for a while, it’s a good idea to choose one that is comfortable, doesn’t have odd smells and which you feel comfortable in. Most people don’t need too much space, but it’s a good idea to have a dresser or closet to store your clothing. If you wish to cook, then look for a room that has a kitchenette where you can prepare your own meals, preferably with the basics, pots, pans, dishes, etc. already available. Some rooms will offer a table or desk where you can work, as well.

For anyone who is moving into a hotel with children, a suite with a separate room for the kids can be a huge blessing. You’ll be able to get them down at a decent hour and still enjoy some television or hanging out with your significant other or friends.

Pricing
Your best bet when it comes to renting a hotel is to look for a short term rental option. Hotels that offer this will give you a better deal for staying a week, a month, or longer. This is often a considerable discount on the nightly price, so it’s worth looking into. Also, hotels that offer these rates are comfortable with having longer term guests and probably already have some. You will be able to talk to other residents and get a feel for the place.

Many people find that short term rentals are ideal for those shorter stays. Whatever your reason for needing a place to stay for a month or two, you can also opt to rent a house or furnished apartment for such a short length of time.

Corporate housing Toronto suites offer all of the comforts of home. Toronto extended stay apartments nightly rates are less than the cost of hotel. View our selection of Toronto furnished apartment choices.

Grand Hotels and Resorts: The Faro di Cape Spartivento

Posted in Travel  by pdelray on November 30th, 2009

There are many spectacular hotels and resorts throughout the world, and they all deserve honorable mentions in articles and publications that highlight the best of the best. The Faro di Cape Spartivento is no exception, either; with everything that even the most discerning luxe traveler could want, this premiere resort is one that is unlike any other on the planet. In 1856, the Italian Navy built a lighthouse at the tip of Sardinia in Italy. This lighthouse accommodated the families of the lighthouse keepers until the navy no longer needed the services in the 1980s. After a while the area fell prey to nature, but in the early 2000s a hotelier came and restored the area and the lighthouse to its original charm and splendor, turning it into a luxury guest house.

This queen of grand hotels and resorts is surrounded by wild and unspoiled nature and a 3000 square meter back garden. The absolutely picturesque surroundings are complemented by the lighthouse overlooking the sea on a cliff. It is also only reachable by an old dirt road, which is actually closed to the public. The entrance door of this splendid lighthouse hotel is a large crystal one, and the hall just beyond it is an impressive 120 meters long. Incredible red glass Murano chandeliers hang to greet guests, and you will also be sure to notice the cast iron spiral staircase that leads down to the cellar. The cellar was once an old underground tank. There is also a complementing stone spiral staircase that leads upstairs where guests will find a tea room with a fireplace and an impressively large chest that is now used as a library.

Faro di Cape only has ten beds to offer to guests in order to make sure that the lighthouse does not become too crowded for luxury. There are two suites that enjoy a view of the sea that are furnished with round suspended beds and modern total white decor. The other two suites in the lighthouse have spectacular views of the hills and are each divided into two different areas. These are the living areas and the sleeping areas. The living area of this hotel, like other resorts, has the sofa and LCD TV and one of the sleeping areas is furnished with a Provencal style bed and the other has a wrought iron four poster bed. There is also a mini apartment that is located in an annex building that is a two level suite. This little apartment type dwelling has a living room on the first floor and a sleeping area up above. What people absolutely love the most about this apartment is the huge glass window that is on the roof, opening the entire place up to sunlight during the day and the starry sky at night. These are just a few of the many features that this luxury hotel and resort offers guests of all types.
