Rocking It In Amsterdam

Posted in Destinations  by amayco on February 27th, 2010

When In Amsterdam, prepare to be shocked by the open lifestyles of the people. And we don’t mean by their open hearts and arms in welcoming visitors to their city by the canals either! We mean by their open lifestyles where soft drugs are easily available and where prostitution is legally practiced.

However, there’s also a side to Amsterdam that appeals to the saner sensibilities in residents and tourists alike - its pubs and bars. Indeed, the Venice of the North offers a vibrant nightlife that features everything from the modern bars to the historic pubs known as brown cafes and the bistros called eetcafes to the tasting houses known as proeflokalen.

Now, that is one selection that will make you dizzy even before you have drank your first gin.

And speaking of gin, tourists are always advised to sample the Dutch national drink and it is not tulip water, we can assure you. It is called Jenever, which is very similar in taste to gin, thus, its moniker as Dutch gin.

Jenever is juniper-flavored but very alcoholic. You might say that it is also medicinal when taken in moderate quantities, thanks to the juniper berries. Then again, do you really go to the pubs and bars for health? Probably not since having a good time and being wasted come on top of the list.

Anyways, if you are not up to Jenever - it is an acquired taste, after all - never despair because Amsterdam is also known for its wide assortment of beers. You will be served beer in either small glasses or half liter or pint but all come with a frothy head - that’s the Dutch way.

The beers in Amsterdam are not the pasteurized kinds found in the bars and pubs of the United States either so be prepared for a different kind of shock.

The beers are best served with bitter ballen, which are fried balls of meat and potato, as well as cheese sticks dipped in mustard. You will wonder how the Dutch stay so slim when you get fatter with every passing night spent at the bars and pubs of the city.

Well, maybe it is because you spent all your days lying in your holiday apartment sleeping off the hangover of the previous night’s revelry instead of cycling, like the Dutch do the morning after.

Still, we cannot blame you as the holiday apartment you booked online is probably the best in the block but at reasonable prices. It is one of the perks of online booking.

Lest you think that the bars and pubs of Amsterdam come alive only at night, think again. The happy hour is every hour, day and night!

There are many areas of the city where said drinking venues congregate - just take your pick and spend the night away talking to your new Dutch friends, drinking strong beer and eating your fill of Dutch delicacies.

There is the Leidseplein with its lines and lines of pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants along with an army of street entertainers. And there is the Rembrandtsplein, Bastille, Surprise and the Jordaan areas, all favorites of the locals who want to go out during the night.

And believe me, the Dutch like going out more than anything else! Please, just pay your own bill though - going Dutch is as true here as anywhere else.

We offer the best appartamenti Amsterdam, apartamentos en Amsterdam at excellent prices! Stay in our Amsterdam alojamiento barato

You Can Fly Cheaply To Barcelona, Spain

Posted in Destinations  by amayco on February 27th, 2010

Barcelona Spain is a wonderful place to visit, and with good reason. Rich in history and culture, it’s no wonder it was chosen for the Olympics. There are many things to see and do here, and it attracts millions of visitors each year. You may be one of these people who want to visit Barcelona, but you might have budget constraints that you feel may prevent you or your family from going. It doesn’t have to be this way, because there are many ways to save money on plane tickets, as well as lodging and dining.

Instead of staying in a hotel, where you have to worry about the cost of your room, as well as eating every day, book a holiday apartment online instead. Hotels are expensive, especially for ones in popular cities like Barcelona, and can cost up and over $100 per night per person. Even if these hotels and resorts offer some kind of breakfast, you still have to buy lunch and dinner. Even fast food places can be expensive, and these costs are even more for groups and families. Then you have to worry about privacy, and fighting over the bathroom, just to name a few of the inconveniences.

A holiday apartment can eliminate all of this at one time. They are rented by the week or month, and this can be split up over the people in your group, or is much more affordable for families. They have kitchens, bedrooms, and separate bathrooms, so you can cook your own food, have your own room, and won’t have your kids pounding on the bathroom door when you are taking a shower, or using the toilet. Holiday apartments provide you all the comforts of home while you are visiting abroad, at a fraction of the cost.

Then there is finding discount plane tickets to top off your travel plans. You may thing that using discount travel sites are a good idea, but you shouldn’t use them because they only deal with large airline companies. The discounts they offer are only when you are booking packages, so if you have already booked your apartment or villa, then you are out of luck. While some may claim they don’t charge booking fees, they may charge a monthly fee to use their service.

You should look online for discount airline companies that only book flights abroad. There are really many to choose from so you can compare prices. They offer discounts because they are smaller companies, and don’t have to stop all the time. They also can fly into smaller airports, which don’t charge as large a fee to land and take off. These savings are of course passed on to you.

If you can be flexible about your travel plans you can find many great discounts on flying as well. Traveling during the off season, like between October, and the end of March, can provide many discounts, and Barcelona won’t be as crowded at this time of year. Traveling at this time can be cheaper all around, because activities will also be cheaper as well. Leaving during the beginning of the week, instead of on a Thursday or Friday can help you get cheaper flights too.
