Unique Ideas for Children’s Birthday Parties

Posted in Travel  by artgib on September 30th, 2010

As parents of young children, it is important to cherish the years that your child actually wants to celebrate their birthday. Time spent with friends and family are the things memories are made of. Planning a fun and engaging birthday for your child is not only a fun event for them and their friends, but it can also lead to fond memories in the future.

There are many traditional ideas for children’s birthday parties that seem to appeal to most children. Hiring clowns or magicians, renting a bouncy castle, and throwing a cowboy or princess themed party are all very common party ideas. These tend to be safe bets, but do not appeal to all children and will likely be done at one of their friend’s birthday parties. Rather than focusing on the theme or one small aspect that will momentarily hold a child’s attention, try focusing more on the main party activity.

For a truly unique party, consider having an activity that most children are not accustomed to. For instance, why not bake a very large or tiered cake and let the children ice and / or decorate the cake with tubes of icing and candy or cookie bits? Another great idea is to make individual desserts, such as cookies or cupcakes and letting the children decorate their own dessert.

For the most unique party, consider hiring the services of a traveling petting zoo or pony ride. Petting zoos can be transported to your home and can come with anything from 6 to 12 small animals. Petting zoos can include the animals that you would see at a traditional petting zoo, such as small goats and pot bellied pigs. However, there are also educational zoos, bunny zoos, safari zoos, reptile zoos, and much more to choose from.

The best thing about a petting zoo at a party is that it will appeal to all children. These animals are completely safe and tame, allowing children to safely pet, hold, and play with them. If a child shies away from a goat, they may be much more likely to play with the bunnies or other small animals available. Even if a child finds themselves hesitant to touch or play with the animals, they will be intrigued watching the animals play and interact with one another and with the other children.

For a truly unique birthday idea, focus more on the activity of the party, rather than the theme. Search online to see what your area offers.

Choosing the Perfect Hotel

Posted in Destinations  by tomselwick09 on September 30th, 2010

Whether you are an experience traveler or if you are getting out into the world for the first time, there are several things you should keep in mind. Particularly in regards to which hotel you book to stay in.

The first thing you should think about when you are deciding which hotel to stay in is how far away it is from the activities you would like to participate in and what kind of setting it is in. It is very easy to find a variety of hotels that you can stay in by your destined vacation spot.

With the use of Google Maps it is easy to check to see how far away these hotels are from your activity locations. However, it may be more difficult to determine what kind of setting the hotel is located in.

Pictures definitely help you get an idea of what the hotel is like. If the hotel website does not have pictures, do not risk staying there.

The second thing you should do is review the ratings on the hotel. The star ratings will give you an initial idea of what kind of quality the hotel is.

These ratings should help you automatically weed out a few of the really poor quality hotels. However, they will also help you choose the right pricing for you.

You may not be able to afford a five star luxury hotel with all of the amenities and stay on budget. A two star rating usually means that the hotel provides basic accommodations.

Meanwhile, a five star hotel is very luxurious and will provide you with spas, swimming pools, and a hire ratio of staff to guests. Depending on your needs you will be able to sort out which hotels are right for you initially by the star rating.

The third thing you should do is read the reviews of the hotel. There are many travel gurus who post blogs and comment on the hotel’s website.

Only book the hotels that look they have the right atmosphere for you and are highly recommended. Previous guests are usually bluntly honest about their experiences there.

If the reviews are negative, avoid that inn like a plague and find somewhere else to stay. Once you find a highly recommended hotel, in the right price range, it will be time to book.

It is best to book your reservation online. You can often get extra discounts by going online.

Remember as you are making a selection that the cheapest hotel is not always the best option. Sometimes you can get a lot more for a slightly higher price.

On a vacation it is especially important to have good time. You do not want to skimp too much on where you are staying.

However, it is a very good idea to compare the prices of various hotels and what they offer. There are many price comparison websites out there that are designed specifically for travelers, like yourself, who are trying to find the right kind of accommodations.

These sites may even offer additional discounts to some hotels. In addition, it is good to keep in mind that the no name companies may really be a bad deal.

In the grocery store, these no name brands are often the exact same quality as the highly popular brand names. However, it is not the same with hotels.

The brand name hotels often really are the best. If you want an assured good experience, be sure to book a hotel with a brand name you have heard very good things about.

Brand names are often standardized across the world. This means that no matter where you travel you will get the same quality of service.

This kind of reassurance can be invaluable at times. If you have looked at all of these things you still cannot decided if a hotel is good or not, check the availability.

It is a good sign if the hotel if somewhat hard to book, pretty full, or busy. This means that the hotel is popular.

It will only get popular if it provides good service and provides a quality experience. When you have finally made a decision and you are ready to book, make sure that the site you are booking through is secure.

A secure site will protect you and your bank information. You do not want to find out unpleasantly that someone stole all of your vacation money right before you leave because you failed to properly protect your bank account.

Learning the Meaning of Traffic Signs

Posted in Travel  by tomselwick09 on September 30th, 2010

There are a lot of people that disregard the signs that they see when they are driving. You may not read the signs or you may not have to read the signs to know what they mean but it is important that you abide by the signs when you are on the road.

First and foremost, you should always make sure that you are abiding by the speed limit signs. These signs are not posted to make your life miserable or to frustrate you, but they have been carefully constructed for your safety.

Many times you may not know what is coming on a road. When you are driving in a residential area you never know when a small child or even a pet will dart out from one of the homes and into the middle of the road.

Because of this, it is important that you teach yourself how to follow the speed limit. When you are following the speed limit you will be ensuring that you have plenty of time to stop when you are not expecting to stop.

This means it is also important to watch the road. When you are watching the road you will be able to react to any unexpected situations that may arise as a result of driving in an area that is quite unpredictable.

You should also make sure that you take the time to get to know your car. When you know how your car is going to react you may need to slow down even more so that you know you have time to stop in case of an emergency.

Second, you should always make sure that you are following the cautionary speed limit signs. Sometimes the speed limit is going to change because the extenuating circumstances make it necessary.

There are different parts of freeways that have changed speed limits to a higher speed than they usually are. They call these parts of the freeways or the highways the speed limit testing zones and you should also follow the speed limits in this zone.

The speeds were decided upon by a team of scientists. They took their time to find out what speed would enable you to be the safest while you were on the road and they found that the posted speed is what ended up working best.

When the speed limit is higher than you feel comfortable driving you have to make sure that you stay in the lane that is farthest to the right. This will ensure that other cars are able to pass you safely and continue driving the posted speed limit.

Taking the time to understand what you feel comfortable with is absolutely necessary. Never drive faster than you feel comfortable driving because you will increase your chances of injuring yourself and the other drivers on the road when you do so.

You should also make sure that you take the time to pay attention to cautionary signs. Although these are not as prevalent as the speed limit signs that re posted everywhere, they are definitely important to learn how to follow.

As you are driving past construction zones you should make sure that you recognize the signs and you follow what they say. The workers that are in the street are in a very vulnerable position being on the street.

Recognizing this truth and taking the time to make sure you do not hurt a construction worthier will be well worth your effort. Hurting someone when you are driving can be completely traumatic.

Finally, you have to make sure that you are reading and paying attention to the cautionary signs throughout your drive. There will be many different places and areas on your drive that will require you to give way to some of the construction workers.

The construction workers need to know that they can work safely on the roads. Abiding by the signs will help you to be safe and will also ensure that the construction workers are able to do their best work.

Taking the time to read sings can be dangerous. You should have an adequate knowledge of what signs mean so that you are able to glance at the sign and understand the message that the sign is trying to convey.

When you take your driving test you will be tested on your knowledge of what signs mean. Take the time to understand the importance of these signs and learn what they mean.

Regulatory Traffic Signs

Posted in Travel  by tomselwick09 on September 30th, 2010

A common category of signs is regulatory traffic signs. These include directional and informational type signage, and symbols.

They are typically white rectangular signs with black, red or green lettering or figures. They are seen on all types of road, including highways, intersections, secondary, and residential streets.

“No Motor Vehicles” signage is typically posted at parks, trails, and recreational areas with small roads on them. These roads are actually for bikes, skates, skateboards, and joggers; not for cars.

“HOV 2+ Only” is a carpooling lane sign on the highway or freeway. This means that only vehicles with two or more people may drive in the far right lane.

The HOV lane is also known as the fast lane because usually in traffic vehicles are not slowed down as much as the lanes on the right. Usually there are only certain areas of entry into the fast lane so as to keep a consistent pace.

“Private Drive No Thru Traffic” is typically placed in an area where it looks like the street continues, but is really a drive way to a residential home. Homeowners put this down next to the street to notify drivers that their driveway is not a street.

“No Turn On Red” is placed for the right lane at a traffic light. Typically drivers can legally make a right-hand turn at a red light after yielding, but this sign indicates not to do so.

“Bus Lane Ahead” indicates that public transportation vehicles will be driving in that lane. It notifies drivers to move over if they do not want to be slowed down by the pace of the large buses.

“Road Closed to Thru Traffic” is placed in areas where road construction is or in a commercial area where truck deliver supplies. “Thru Traffic” is any vehicle not choosing that location as their destination.

If the sign is in a residential area where construction is being done on the pavement, for example, than only people who live in that neighborhood and need to go on the street to get home are allowed to drive through. All other traffic is prohibited.

“Weight Limit 10 Tons” is usually placed on a bridge or overpass. It notifies drivers of large vehicles, like semi-trucks, to only drive on the bridge if their load does not exceed 10 tons.

“Left Turn Yield On Green” is at intersections with traffic lights and a left-hand turning lane. This tells driver who are wanting to turn left that they need to wait for and be aware of oncoming traffic before they make their turn.

“Photo Enforced” is a warning sign to drivers who may speed or run a red light. This indicates that there is a camera that will take a picture of you, your car, and your license plate number if you break any traffic laws and send you a ticket via the mail.

“Slower Traffic Keep Right” is a motion for vehicles on the highway to keep right if other cars are going faster than them. This allows the faster cars to pass them safely.

“Do Not Stop On Tracks” is placed at railroad tracks. It warns drivers to not stop on the railroad tracks as trains may be coming and cause an accident.

“Stay In Lane” is usually a sign placed while road construction is going on. Typically drivers may switch lanes as they please, but this tells them to stay in the lane they are currently driving in.

“No Hitch Hiking” is placed on highways and freeways reminding people that hitch hiking is illegal. Hitchhiking it people who ask for rides from strangers driving on the road, and has become illegal due to murders and assaults to innocent driver who pick them up from the side of the road.

“Speed Zone Ahead” is a warning to drivers that police officers will most likely have a speed trap set up ahead. It allows divers to slow down and follow the speed limit if they are not already doing so.
