Georgia Homebuyers Need a Professional Arborist

Posted in Destinations  by ksimpson on December 31st, 2010

One of the first things that you should do when you buy a new home or property in a city like Atlanta is to have a professional arborist look at the trees. You should do this because like all other living things, trees need to be kept healthy.

There are a wide variety of pests and diseases that can quickly kill off your magnolias or oaks. Contrary to popular belief it is often impossible for a layperson to tell if there is something wrong with a poplar or evergreen.

In many cases a tree that is dying or dead can actually look healthy. An arborist can look at an elm and tell you what condition it is in. More importantly this professional can take action to save the beech before it is too late.

Protecting Your Investment
Actions the pro can take to protect Georgia peaches include spraying, pruning, trimming and the removal of dead or dying trees. In many cases, taking out one sick elm can save all of the greenery on a property.

Most property owners don’t bother to have professionals look at their trees. This means that many of the birches and willows on your property could be sick or dying and you won’t know it.

A person can try to protect their property by cutting down a sick elm themselves. Unfortunately simply taking out a dying oak may not protect your property. Many of the fungal diseases that attack oaks and elms can spread even after the sick tree has been sawed down.

A professional can remove the sick oak in such a way as to protect the rest of the property. Arborists can also take measures to save trees such as spraying.

There are also many bugs and diseases that attack foliage in Atlanta. The professionals will be familiar with them and know how to protect the property’s beauty and value.

Atlanta
North Georgia is a very beautiful region and many people move here for the natural beauty. Property owners owe it to themselves to protect their investment and their home.

This means that every Atlanta homebuyer should make a call to a professional tree service when they move in. Such a call will protect their investment and preserve the natural beauty of their land.

If you need more tree information Karen Simpson can provide it. She is also an expert on having fun in Atlanta, GA.

Though there are lovely Lake District cottages, hotels, villas and bed and breakfast lodging arrangements also available, considering that this place would take you a long time to explore and enjoy, a self catering cottage would be ideal from the budget perspective and would also provide you with the independence you require. It would also give you a lot of flexibility and the opportunity to visit towns like Keswick, Ambleside on your own for market shopping and for just looking around. These villages oversee the superb Ullswater Lake.

All Lake District cottages are well equipped with all amenities including cable television and other entertainment media including the internet. The kitchens have all the necessary white good utilities like dishwashers, ovens and washing machines. You can even enjoy a hot tub bath at some of the cottages. They give you a homely comfort feeling and a chance to be close to local life, which may not be possible when you stay at any of the bigger hotels. There are also conventional thatched cottages that can accommodate two and four people depending on their size. There are also clusters of cottages that can fit much larger groups and that are indeed drawing a lot of interested tourists to this place.

A Galena Bed and Breakfast or Galena Hotel: More Than Just Places to Sleep

Posted in Destinations  by bgreenaz on December 29th, 2010

Tourists to the city of Galena, Illinois should consider an overnight stay in a Galena bed and breakfast or hotel. Visitors who do will likely experience a much greater appreciation for the colorful history that makes it such a dynamic and appealing destination.

Galena, Illinois was founded in 1826, although its earliest inhabitants first settled the area in the late 1600’s. It was an important trade center due to its location between St. Louis and on the Mississippi River.

Later it became a primary lead mining town. It is, in fact, where the town got its name. “Galena” is the name for lead sulfide, the type of lead found in the area.

Demand for lead sulfide dropped significantly in the mid-19th century. As the demand continued to decline, many of the town’s residents left for other places where work was available. The population of the town dropped from 14,000 to under 4,000 in the span of 150 years.

Today its regular population stands at around 3,500. However, this small town has found a big place in the tourism industry, thanks to its historical significance.

The city was once home to nine different Civil War generals. The most famous of these was General Ulysses S. Grant. Grant’s home has been restored and is a designated historic site and popular tourist attraction today.

The city’s core was built largely during the mid 1800’s. Thanks to a string of fires that had previously plagued the town, a new decree was issued that new structures were to be made from brick or stone.

Many of these original brick and stone buildings still stand today. It is this unique architecture that so many tourists find charming and quaint. Due to its appeal to tourists and ambience for residents, about 85 percent of the city’s total area has been designated as a Historic District.

A number of the town’s beautiful brick estate homes have been turned into businesses that cater to tourists. A significant number are home to quaint, old-world style Galena bed and breakfasts and hotels.

Travelers to the area should plan for at least one overnight stay in one of these. Some historic homes-turned-accommodations include the Ryan Mansion, the Annie Wiggins Guest House, the Felt Manor Guest House and the Belle Aire Mansion, plus many others.

They offer guests more than a clean room and a peaceful night’s sleep. They offer an authentic Civil War era experience.

Homes and other buildings must meet and adhere to strict criteria in order to receive a historic site designation. The owners of these Galena bed and breakfasts and hotels have taken great pains to carefully restore them to their former splendor.

Everything from decorations, to furniture to floors and walls provide guests with a genuine taste of the past. Visitors will feel as though they have traveled back in time.

While Mississippi River travel through Galena, Illinois has dwindled since its heyday, the city is still an ideal “crossroads.” It is located off of US 20 in the northwestern corner of the state.

It is an ideal stop-over for anyone traveling between the neighboring states of Iowa and Wisconsin. It also lies close to the border of Minnesota.

Galena’s hotels and bed and breakfasts have enjoyed an upsurge of business since the 1980’s. This is when efforts began in earnest to encourage tourism as a means for boosting the town’s economy.

Today it welcomes thousands of annual visitors who come not just for the charm, but also for the hospitality. Those who spend a night or a weekend come away feeling as though they escaped to times past.

Civil War buff looking for a great place to visit? Try historic Galena, Illinois. Stay in comfort at a Galena bed and breakfast or Galena hotel.
