Orange Beach Condominiums - Girls’ Getaway

Posted in Travel  by astratton on June 30th, 2011

Girls just want to have a little time to pamper themselves and Orange Beach condominiums are perfect places to do just that. Women are often the caretakers of the world. They care for the kids, the pets, the house and even for their husbands, boyfriends or significant others. There comes a time when they just need some space to take care of themselves. Checking into a condo along the coast of Orange Beach, Alabama is the perfect respite for rejuvenation. Gathering up the girlfriends for a week long slumber party at Orange Beach condominiums along the seashore will give mommy back her positive attitude. There are lots of opportunities for pampering and fun. Here are some things to think about:

- Spa date: There are some luxurious spas in the area just waiting to make each female a queen-for-a-day. How about a mud body wrap or a facial complete with aromatherapy to improve one’s mood? Or waxing away any excess body hair before slipping into the bikinis that were brought along in suitcases.

- Manicure and pedicure: When did your fingernails and toenails last see a bottle of polish? If it’s been too long, there are salons ready to pamper your feet to into beauty before slipping on the sandals or to make your hands look lovely holding a margarita on the beach.

- Hair stylists: Remember how everyone would do each others’ hair at slumber parties? Well, you can have a grown-ups’ version of this by all going to the beauty shop for shampoos and styles. Take “before and after” snapshots of everyone’s hairdos to have souvenirs of the experience. When you all go out for dinner, you’ll look like a horde of supermodels.

- Massage: One of the ultimate sensory experiences in “me time” is getting a full body massage. Having all the tension rubbed out of muscles can turn you all into joyful wenches.

- Shopping: Shopping with the girls on vacation is way more fun than picking up items from Wal-Mart back home. Orange Beach boasts an array of shopping venues including beach boutiques, quaint souvenir shops, artisan galleries and more, just minutes away from many Orange Beach condominiums. Think of how heavenly it will be to peruse the shops’ wares without hubby looking at his watch or the kids having temper tantrums.

- Dining out: There are casual and formal restaurants to fit everyone’s taste buds. Seafood, steaks, pastries, pizza, cocktails and appetizers - what’s your pleasure? Now’s your chance to have someone else do the cooking and cleanup. It’s also your chance to just chat with your girlfriends and be served by others. Finally, your only responsibility at meal time will be to decide how much of a tip to leave.

Checking into Orange Beach condominiums with your girlfriends is the perfect way to recharge your batteries. A girls’ getaway isn’t selfish; it’s a way to come back as a well nurtured person ready to step back into the roles of mommy, employee and wife once again. The old saying that “if mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy” is truer than ever. By the end of the vacation, all ladies will be happy to reunite with their loved ones back home.

Travel Tips - For Families Small With Kids

Posted in Destinations  by marinakvillatoro on June 30th, 2011

Are you considering bringing the whole family with you or go on a trip with kids? Find out more travel tips you can use while traveling.

a. Traveling With Small Kids For The First Time? When you become a parent you probably think it’s the end of your traveling adventures on a trip. But it doesn’t have to be like that. I mean, yes you will have to be more careful but it doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. What you have to know for sure is that you won’t be able to go to and from the touristic destinations as fast as you used to. So keep in mind that kids need some rest and it can be stressful for them to be moving around all the time. What you can do is to limit the number of places to see. That is why finding a hotel that is in a central location from the places you want to visit and to come back to it at least once a day to rest is also a good idea. This way kids won’t be worn out that fast.

b. How To Relax When Traveling With Kids? As a traveling mom I can’t help asking myself this question every time we are about to go on vacation “What happens if I lose my child?” To avoid being stressed, visit a local hospital before you travel and ask if they will make one of those plastic bracelets for each of your children. Then you can put whatever information you’d like on a slip of paper and insert it into the bracelet. If you’re traveling to/through foreign countries, you may want to put the information in the native language of the countries you are planning to visit.

c. Kid Essential: I’m a freak. I’ll admit it! I’m ridiculously paranoid my son is either going to get lost or kidnapped. So I’m always extra cautious. Thankfully my son is at the age where he can understand what to do if we are separated. But sometimes screaming: “MAMA, PAPA” in a crowded location doesn’t do the trick.

-my solution is to get an extra powerful whistle! If explained properly they will understand the importance of this essential traveling accessory.

d. More Traveling with Kids: This tip might sound super obvious, but I find my husband constantly forgetting to do this easy but insanely necessary act: Ask my son before we head off in car, bus, or train if he has to PEE!

Ask my son before we head off in car, bus, or train if he has to PEE! And, of course, 10 minutes into the drive, stuck in traffic somewhere my son screams, ‘I have to do Pee Pee!” So take my advice: Not only ask them if they have to pee, tell them they aren’t going on trip unless they pee beforehand.

e. Flying with Kids Can Be Fun! Before child I remember my flying time was full of catching up with my journal, or reading a good book, or just plain sleeping.

Now, I have to have to be extra careful or the trip above the clouds can turn into a true disaster not only by driving me nuts, but everyone seated around me. I came up with a great adventure: I do is I STOCK UP on cheap toys. In Central America you can easily find toys between $1-2 at local markets and stores that are frequented by the natives.

If you’re flying from the States, Europe, Canada, Australia or other Western countries there are plenty $1 type shops. So go nuts! Splurge! Imagine what you can do with $20 bucks.

Wrap them up in gift paper and present them as gifts! That will give you more time to relax.

f. Let Them Get Wet! I know whenever I travel anywhere with my son and there is water around he will be aching to get wet! I mean, it doesn’t matter if he’s in winter clothes, he’ll just jump right in and get soaked. I’m personally not a great lover of water and never understood the insane attraction.

However, after traveling around with my friends who didn’t care so much about their kids getting wet from their hats (heads) to their sneakers (feet) because they always had an extra set of clothes and shoes, plus plenty of plastic bags to put away all their wet clothes I decided to do the same.

The best part is that my boy thinks his mom is the da bomb!

Packing Tips For Travelers

Posted in Destinations  by marinakvillatoro on June 30th, 2011

Here are some ideas on what to pack and what not to pack when on vacation.

a. Separating Your Beach Luggage

When traveling you normally wants to visit many places such as monuments, national parks and beaches. So before you leave home you just pack anything you think is going to be needed.

One thing I learned is that if visiting a beach is in your schedule it is a good idea to put anything you will need like swimsuits and towels in a separate beach bag, which for me should always be made of plastic or an impermeable material. Then put it inside your backpack with the rest of your luggage. I know it might seem like a waste of space but you won’t always be able to dry your wet clothes immediately, that is why an impermeable beach bag will avoid that the rest of your luggage gets wet.

b. Don’t Leave Your Home Without Sunscreen

Central America is very close to the Equator and sun burns skin faster than you may be used to. So wear sunscreen. But keep in mind that in this side of the world rain can be unexpected and sudden so get a waterproof sunscreen, with the highest SPF you can find so you don’t have to worry about it every 15 minutes.

c. 4 Things to Pack and Not Feel Guilty About

1. Laptop: An average laptop can replace many other items you don’t need to travel with like cell phones.

2. Books: A book can also help you really disconnect from home and work when you travel and connect with your surroundings instead. They can be heavy but a good book doesn’t need a power outlet so you can enjoy it anywhere.

3. Extra Shoes: There are 3 types of shoes that you can’t go wrong with. A good pair of walking or running shoes, slippers, and a decent pair of dress shoes.

4. A Suitcase: This is the travel item that probably brings frequent travelers the most guilt. But it’s good to have a cheap or used suitcase if you end up needing one and let it rest in your hotel. You can come back and forth to it to fill you backpack full of the things you’ll need for the day.

d. A New Packing Method

I have traveled a lot, which means a lot of luggage carrying and it is never easy. The clothes always get wrinkled and it seems like you never have enough room for it. So to make it all simpler I use the ‘Interweaving Packing Method’: Drape longer garments (pants and dresses) across the suitcase, with the ends hanging over the sides. Then, fold smaller items like jackets, shirts, and blouses around the longer garments.

e. Do You Know Where Your Purse Is?

I know women travelers always have trouble parting with their purses and after having one too many not-so-fun mugging moments, I’ve decided to have a good hard look through my purse to see: Is it really necessary? I discovered that it’s not!

So I made a small list of what you really need, here it is:

Money
Credit Cards
Camera
Sunglasses

So next time you go for a day tour, leave the bag at home and put all these things in the pockets of your clothes.

f. Guys Get A Mugger’s Wallet

Because anywhere you go there will always be thieves why not carry a ‘mugger’s wallet when travelling! In case of an emergency, you can surrender it easily. In it you can carry a big bill in front and a half-dozen or so smaller bills behind, along with your photo ID library card, some other papers, hotel coupons, etc, for bulk.

Things to Do On a Family Beach Vacation When It Rains

Posted in Destinations  by trycmcw on June 30th, 2011

While the main purpose of a family beach vacation is to frolic on the sand in the sunshine, Mother Nature sometimes sends rain to spoil those plans. Rather than sitting indoors and waiting anxiously for the rain to stop and the clouds to clear, there are many fun family activities to do on a rainy day.

Shopping
Shopping malls are one of the most popular activities for rainy days at the beach. Vacationers usually take a little bit of time to find souvenirs for friends and loved ones back home. The rain brings forth a good opportunity for indoor activities like shopping.

Puzzles and Games
When spending time outdoors is not an option, spending time in a hotel suite can be equally relaxing and fun. It is always a good idea for the family to pack some favorite games to bring on vacation just in case. Games, puzzles and cards are fun sources of entertainment. Many resort hotels will keep an extra board game or deck of cards at the front desk for guests to borrow if needed.

Indoor Pool
Stay at a beach vacation resort hotel with an indoor pool. When the weather outside is uncooperative, the kids can still go swimming and the parents can still relax. Pack a few pool toys, like water wings and kickboards. Bring along swim goggles and nose plugs if necessary. Beach hotels with indoors pools feature an alternative to driving in the rain and spending extra money on entertainment. Parents should make sure that children follow the pool rules to enhance their enjoyment and safety.

Museums
While vacation is a time for fun and relaxation, it doesn’t hurt to add in a little bit of educational value at the same time. Rainy days are ideal for visits for this. Visits to local museums and historical points of interest are one way to help children experience history and culture firsthand. Whether there are lighthouses and maritime museums or Revolutionary and Civil War-period homes on display, seeing artifacts and photos of the local history is a hands-on way to learn.

Movies
For a little bit of routine fun with an unfamiliar twist, rainy days are good candidates for a visit to the local movie theatre. While the family may be accustomed to the movie theatres at home, trying a different venue is a fun, yet slightly unusual, experience. The building’s function is the same, but the layout, lighting and concessions are different enough to make the experience unique and memorable. One advantage to going to the movies on a rainy day is that there is almost always something new that is suitable for all family members to watch together.
