During the celebration, the Lord Ganesha is worshipped thru a lifesize image made of clay.

The image stands in platforms in front of homes or placed under outdoor tents. A priest performing chants as ritual leads the people. People offer red flowers, trefoil blades, rice flour, jaggery and coconut. It is also known as Vinayak Chathurti or Vinayaka Chavithi.

The fourth festival is the Uttarayan. It is a six-month occasion that happens in between January 14 to July 14. It commemorates the movement of the sun towards north and awaking of gods. People fly and engage in kite fights of various sizes from 9 inches to 3 feet. Women fly kites while men kite fights. Winners of the competition cheer Kaypo Che which means I cut the kites. The people also enjoy crunching on sesame and peanut bars.

Here you will find an assortment of breath taking terrain, fascinating wildlife, and plenty of water ways for your boating recreation. There are some new boating laws concerning pleasure craft that you might need to know.

Okanagan Valley is almost a desert because it is so dry, but there is plenty of water available to put a boat in and enjoy your leisure. This area is adored by thousands of people, both local and guest, with unequaled variety of climate and landscape, it is the perfect place for boating and sailing. But sure you have an operators card if your boat is motor powered.

One place to consider is Adams River where every four years sockeye salmon return to their place of birth by the millions. This event is world famous and can be enjoyed from several different areas around the river. There are many resorts and lodges available to accommodate travelers who need to soak up a little time indoors.

For those who do not have their own boat, there is Big Rideau Lake where you will find a boaters paradise. The waterway consists of lakes and rivers that are connected by canals. Lake Erie is fed from the west by the Huron river and from the east by St. Clair. This a mecca of boating activity and a battleground of the War of 1812, if you are in Canadian waters you will need to comply with their boating laws and regulations.

The Great Lakes and the connecting channels form the largest fresh water system on earth. These lakes are clearly seen from the moon, and have interesting shapes, with one of them looking like a wolfs head. They are fed by numerous rivers, and if spread out evenly the water they contain could cover the United States in 9.5 feet of water.

Alberta in the Canadian Rockies offers more than 600 lakes where jet boating is a favorite sport, and an excellent place to scuba dive. River boarding is a great new sport being enjoyed in Alberta, surfing the rapids is a favorite pastime of young and old. Merging History, Thrill, and Culture

Posted in Destinations  by terrydaniels09 on September 3rd, 2010

Salt Lake City is the capital city and the most populous in the state of Utah. It was originally settled in the 19th century by pioneers of the Latter-day Saint, or Mormon, faith.

Because of the westward expansion and the building of the first continental railroad, the city became a major outlet for travelers and grew economically. The economy there is now strengthened mostly by tourism, seeing as the city and the surrounding areas are some of the greatest arenas for winter sports in the world.

Salt Lake City has a very established public transportation system. For a fun and inexpensive alternative to driving, try taking a bus around the city to whichever destination you prefer.

You could also hop on the TRAX light rail, which operates daily and runs all throughout Salt Lake. The city is also very easy to navigate through, so if public transportation is not for you rent a car or hail a cab.

During the spring and summer months, the weather is mild and the scenery is extremely beautiful. Try renting a bike to get from place to place.

This is another alternative to walking all over town, which can get exhausting. Bicycle is a way to take in all of Salt Lake City while being out of doors and exercising.

In downtown Salt Lake City, there are many historical and religious sites that visitors to the Wasatch Front should not miss. No matter what your faith or religious affiliation, the landmarks of the LDS Church are beautiful and interesting places to see and visit and are what the city of Salt Lake was founded on.

The most prominent of all the landmarks is the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City. With its white exterior and majestic spires, it is a sight to behold.

Pioneers that first came to Salt Lake City with the President of the Church at that time, Brigham Young, put everything that they had into building this religious sanctuary, even their own belongings. Though not all visitors are able to enter into the temple, due to religious statutes, anyone can go to the Visitor’s Center.

In this center, you are able to learn about the history of the temple, pioneers, and teachings of the LDS Church. You can even visit the Family History Center and do genealogy work or look up the information of deceased family members.

Another entertaining part of the Latter-day Saint community in downtown Salt Lake is the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The choir performs at LDS Conferences, records musical albums, and does performances throughout the year with other famous musical artists.

Try taking a trip to the Tabernacle to find out about the choir’s practice schedule, because they usually welcome visitors during their practice times. Even when just practicing, the music the choir provides is extremely beautiful and powerful.

The city is also home to modern talent and arts. If you are visiting during the summer time and are a lover of music, the Gallivan Twilight Concert Series is one venue you cannot.

Every summer, usually throughout the months of July and August, talented artists, both well-known and independent, come to the Gallivan Theater for a series of concerts designed to bring different music styles to the people of Salt Lake City. The concerts are free, and are an exciting place to learn about new musical groups or listen to some of your favorites.

The concerts are weekly, and get very crowded, depending on which musician is performing. Try to show up at least an hour early; that way, you can find a spot to listen, set up a blanket, and enjoy the atmosphere until the show begins.

Music lovers may also want to find tickets to a show at In the Venue when visiting Salt Lake City. Many of the bands that come there to perform are well-known, and tickets are usually pretty inexpensive.

A trip to Salt Lake City during the winter time would not be complete without visiting “The Greatest Snow on Earth.” There are plenty of resorts and mountain parks designed just for skiing, snowboarding, and winter sports in general.

Some of the most popular winter arenas are Alta, Brighton, Park City, and Sundance. Salt Lake City is a destination with enough history, landmarks, and activities to keep any visitor entertained for the entirety of their visit!

Terry Daniels has been writing about things to do in cities across America. He recommends things to do in Salt Lake City.

Planning Your Michigan Adventure

Posted in Destinations  by tommygreene09 on September 3rd, 2010

If you are thinking about a fun place to vacation in the fall, look no further than the majestic beauty of Michigan. While some people may not think of this state as a vacation destination, it is a serene, quiet, beautiful place which draws in tourists every year for its outstanding fall colors, and its unforgettable tourist sites.

Those seeking a real escape from the predators of progress and development will always be welcomed by the stark, untouched nature of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The great northern isthmus, while larger than many states, is home to just over three hundred thousand citizens.

However, the population has learned to respect the landscape in a way that it remain preserved and beautiful throughout the year. Most travelers venturing to the remote northern landscape of Michigan’s upper peninsula must come by way of the great Mackinac bridge, the intimidating steel-cabled structure spanning more than two miles of water and connecting two very different cultures.

And if the massive conduit isn’t evidence of a separation in itself, the first glimpse from the northern foot of the suspended passage leaves no doubt that the visitor has entered a different land. The air is at once crisp, clear, and quiet.

There is very little evidence of civilization, which is absolutely refreshing for those trying to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and work. There are no freeway signs, no exits, no freeways!

Walking through the thick ancient forest is the best way to connect to nature, God, and yourself. You may find that something which was lost within yourself, the ability to marvel at the world around you, will be restored.

This is the untamed wilderness of the northern Michigan border, which few know about save it be locals and bordering Canadians. It is one of the sole remaining views and experiences of mother earth, guarded, protected, and left alone.

It is a haven to animals, plants, and even people who do not wish to be a part of the crazy world around them. It is a place of peace, refuge, and reflection.

Although the region has welcomed a handful of transplanted retirees and nature seekers, it is truly home only to the survivors and descendants of its original settlers: the mining and logging pioneers. Today, the aging edifices of the region’s first settlements mirror the silent expressions of the aged citizenry, both ghostly reminders of a glorious history.

Now mines and museums serve as monuments to the bygone era of what was once the great kingdom of a blue-collar aristocracy. This cultural undercurrent serves as the unique and appealing backdrop for the visits of the outside world.

Students of Northern Michigan University, compelled by the solitude and separation of the school, give little thought to the native population. Tourists, drawn primarily by the natural beauty of locales like “Pictured Rocks,” and the popular Winter recreations of skiing and sledding, catch only a glimpse of the reality of the local culture when they happen upon obscure attractions such as the almost metaphysical “Da Yoopers’ Tourist Trap.”

This unique Michigan culture has been brought to public attention by the more than one home-town celebrity. The famed nature writer James Curwood captured the wonder of the wilderness itself.

Jeff Daniels, the quirky and successful actor, has captured the culture and customs of the north Michigan natives in a comedic stage presentation “Escanaba in da Moonlight,” currently running at Michigan’s own Gem Theater. While not for everyone, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula will satisfy the curious spiritual longing of those rare individuals who are smothered by progress and left wanting by vacations to theme parks, Las Vegas, and other forms of worldly entertainment.

Whether drawn by the natural beauty or the many recreational opportunities, the U.P. always finds a way to meet the highest of expectations. The power of the northern wilderness is such that the occasional traveler even finds it impossible to leave!

Sometimes the most memorable vacations come from the times when you did the least. Imagine waking up to sound of birds, and falling water.

Imagine being able to take a walk through nature, in complete silence, and be able to truly organize your thoughts for the first time in months. If this sounds appealing, there are plenty of beautiful bed and breakfasts, lodges, and hotels which can keep you warm and comfortable while you explore this magical place.

Working Hard to Vacation Well

Posted in Destinations  by tommygreene09 on September 2nd, 2010

The more that you are able to plan before you leave on vacation the more beneficial your planning will be. This article describes some methods that will help you ensure your family vacation is the best it can be.

Planning a family reunion can be stressful. There are many people that dread going on a family reunion because of the repercussions that are often manifest after being in close quarters with those people that you are closest to.

When you are planning a family vacation or a family reunion, you want to make sure that you take the time to think about the problems your family may have and the more that you can reconcile before the vacation the better.

If a problem cannot be reconciled, you should make sure that your vacation is not going to make the problem escalate. There should be plenty of room in your accommodations and you should make sure that the vacation is very well planned.

Renting out a condo or a large house may be a great way to make sure that everybody has his or her space. The more space that everyone has the easier it will be to make sure everyone can keep their cool throughout the day.

As you are taking the time to get to know the condo that you are staying in you should have a very defined packing list for each of the members of your family. Letting everyone know what they should bring ahead of time is mandatory.

When you are staying in a condo everyone will be able to interact and socialize as they please. But everyone should also be able to participate in the activities that they want to participate in without offending other members of the family.

To ensure that everyone is happy you should make a list of activities that are going to be done as a family. Making this list with all of the family members is a great way to ensure that everyone feels included and wants to participate.

There are a lot of people that decide to plan a vacation and take all planning rights away from everyone else in the family. Although you can be the ring leader and get things put together you have to make sure that everyone has a voice.

The more that people can say an contribute the more excited they will become. As you are taking the time to seriously consider the opinions that are expressed you will notice that people will be more willing to compromise with you.

After you have made a tentative itinerary for a few family activities you should start working on the food. There are some families that enjoy eating out every night, but for many this can become old and expensive really fast.

When you are staying in a rental you may be able to cook for every member of the family very easily. Rotating nights for cooking amongst the families that you are going to be vacationing with is a great way to ensure that everyone is fed.

Talking with your family about this plan far ahead of time is absolutely necessary. When you are on vacation you do not want to spring a surprise on a family and let them know that they must prepare a meal on such short notice.

When you are asking people if they would like to cook you should also let them know about any healthy or allergy concerns in the family. This way, everyone will be able to eat and everyone will be happy.

If you are going to make a cooking schedule you should also make sure that you are going to have a cleaning schedule. The family that cooked should not be responsible for cleaning up after the meal is over.

As things come together when you are in your vacation rental you will be able to appreciate the time and effort that it takes beforehand to plan a vacation. There are a lot of people that do not understand the amount of work that goes into one vacation.

No matter where your family is going, you have to make sure that you are on top of things. There has to be someone that is in charge to ensure that the operation runs smoothly and everyone is able to be happy.

After you have done all that you can, you have to leave it at that. There are a lot of people that blame themselves or think that if they just keep pushing to find the answer they will be able to make everything better.

Once you have done all that you can to plan a successful vacation, you deserve the time that it takes to sit back, relax and enjoy all of your hard work.
